This is a collection of some of the basic documents which describe Indymedia Ireland and how we work

About Indymedia Ireland

Indymedia Ireland is a volunteer-run non-commercial open publishing website for local and international news, opinion & analysis, press releases and events. Its main objective is to enable the public to participate in reporting and analysis of the news and other important events and aspects of our daily lives and thereby give a voice to people. It has since evolved to a site that attempts to present an alternative to media propaganda spin and lies with contributions of aware activists and media/geopolitical savvy posters from the general public.

It forms part of the global Indymedia movement, a project focused on grassroots non-commercial news written by ordinary people.

Indymedia Ireland's Editorial Guidelines

Indymedia Ireland is built on the foundation of an open and democratic newswire. We want to see and hear real stories, news, and opinions from users of the site around the country. Anybody can post a story, or a comment on a story to Indymedia. While we struggle to maintain the newswire as a completely open forum we do monitor it and remove posts.

Indymedia Privacy Policy

The Indymedia Ireland does not normally retain server logs of activity on the website. In special cases, where persistent patterns of abuse are noticed, we may decide to use the logs to identify the source of the abuse. The information in these logs is not shared with any other body and is not used for any other purposes other than ensuring the secure functioning of the site.

Legal Disclaimer

Content (text, image, audio, or video) posted to this web site is owned by its author. Unless otherwise stated by the author, all content is free for non-commercial reuse, reprint, and rebroadcast, on the net and elsewhere. Opinions are those of the people contributing to the site and are not necessarily endorsed by Indymedia Ireland.

Help Indymedia

The Indymedia Ireland website is run in an open and free atmosphere. We welcome participation and contributions from everyone who feels they have something constructive to add. You don't have to be a member to post to the newswire or to contribute articles. The website is managed by a volunteer collective who collaborate on mailing lists and have face to face meetings as the need arises. Membership of the collective is open to all.

Donate to Indymedia

Indymedia is a not-for-profit news site that accepts no advertising or commercial support whatsoever. We rely entirely on volunteer labour to keep the site going and donations from users to pay our hosting charges - which are relatively high because of the high level of bandwidth used. For instance in Jan 2012, this was over 25GB a day. If we want to keep on growing we need the community to help out and for users to donate a few euros towards the bills.

What is the Indymedia Newswire?

The Indymedia Ireland newswire works on the principle of Open Publishing, an essential element of the Indymedia project that allows anyone to instantaneously self-publish their work on a globally accessible web site. The Indymedia newswire encourages people to become the media by posting their articles, analysis, and photographs directly to the web site. You can publish to the newswire by clicking the "publish" link and following the easy instructions.
