John McGuffin 1942 - 2002

John McGuffin,Anarchist, Author, lawyer, civil rights veteran and self-confessed rioter, pirate radio operator, guerilla fighter and bank robber, died in Derry yesterday, aged 59.

John McGuffin 1942 -2002

John McGuffin, aka Sean McGuffin, author of a variety of works, most famously The Guineapigs, provoked by his experience of torture when he was the first Protestant to be interned by the northern Irish State in the late 60s(&which was censored by the British government), died peacefully yesterday (Sunday 28 April) in Derry after six months of illness.

A well known bon-viveur and story teller, McGuffin was also a Civil Rights veteran, self-confessed anarchist, guerrilla fighter, bank robber, solicitor, rioter, drug dealer, pirate radio operator and writer. His latest book, catchily titled: 'Charles "Nomad" McGuinness - Being a true account of the amazing adventures of a Derryman, Adventurer, Pirate, IRA man, Gun Runner, Polar Explorer, Rogue, Mercenary, Escaper and Hero' is set to come out in the next month.(see links below)

For those who are wondering about future editions of McGuffin's emailed satirical, highly libellous (and therefore enjoyable!) "Dispatches", which he described as "unashamedly Republican, Socialist, Anarchist, Guevarist and iconoclastic" we have it on good authority that his ghost will return to ensure their continuation in the near future. Even in the grave he will not be censored!

You will be sadly missed comrade!

McGuffin was the only Protestant to be scooped and interned in 1971 during the first wave of internment, not the late 60s, as I had reported. I will post a full obituary by someone better qualified than me as soon as it becomes available.
