On November 2nd 2017, please join us between 1pm and 2.30pm for a symbolic lunchtime protest at the British Embassy in Dublin to commemorate the centenary of the issuance of the ‘Balfour Declaration’ by the British Empire, which promised historic Palestine to the Zionist movement against the wishes of the Palestinian people – thus laying the foundation for waves of ethnic cleansing and the ongoing colonisation of Palestine by Israel. The protest will highlight the role of British imperialism in the partition of Palestine, and its collaboration with the crimes and abuses of the Israeli state against the Palestinian people ever since – and call for end to this collusion and for freedom, justice and equality for Palestinians. read full story / add a comment

The ReBirth of Marxism: Haunting the Future National University of Ireland Maynooth, 4 – 5 May 2018 Call for papers In his play Marx in Soho, Howard Zinn has Marx ask “Don’t you wonder why it is necessary to proclaim me dead, again and again?” May 5, 2018 will be Marx’s 200th anniversary – one among many anniversaries which remind us of Marx and Engels’ long-lasting impact on the modern world. As we send this out, we are sandwiched between the 150th anniversary of Capital and the 100th of what Gramsci called a “Revolution against Capital” in Russia. Our conference includes the May Day bank holiday, celebrated by the traditional labour movement – but it also marks the 50th anniversary of the start of “May 1968” in Paris, while “Ireland’s 1968” is sometimes dated to the violent suppression of a civil rights demonstration in Derry, five months later. read full story / add a comment

On 14th October 2017, Rally for Choice will march through the streets of Belfast. - Last year saw us counter protest the Rally for Life in the North of Ireland, for the first time we marched against their lies instead of our usual static demo. Our counter protest was a huge success, despite being organised at short notice and with only a handful of activists. The protest burst across our streets and convened at Buoy Park afterwards for speakers. We outnumbered the Rally for Life 2016 significantly read full story / add a comment

As Trump dismantles DACA and moves ever closer towards building his wall on the Mexican border, we look at the impacts of US policy in the region from the Cold War to today. Focussing on economic, drug, and foreign policy, this session will examine the American origins of the crime, insecurity and immigration Trump has often blamed on Latin Americans, while exploring the many ways in which Trump’s virulent rhetoric is nothing new, but rather a continuation of nearly 70 years of misgivings and prejudices. read full story / add a comment

Anybody who wants to show their support for the proposed segregated Liffey Cycle Route are asked to cycle from the Phoenix Park to the Docklands this Sunday. The cycle is ahead of the Dublin City Council transport committee meeting later this month which is expected to deal with choosing Option 7 which keeps the cycle route on the quays or Option 8 which diverts cycling into a boardwalk and add a number of conflicts with pedestrians. Campaigners are hoping Option 7 is chosen, but it will require diverting motorists off a section of the quays read full story / add a comment
